An Emerald Lakes mum wanted to create something special for her family and raise funds for local surf clubs.

KATE Riley has always been into cycling but noticed there weren’t any events for families. Now she’s solved that problem by creating one. The Emerald Lakes mum-of-two will hold the Oceanway Ride through Surfers Paradise on Father’s Day in September.

There are three different courses, for elite riders, families and kids and all feature the Glitter Strip. Ms Riley will be joined by her daughters Jessica, 13 and Abigail, 10 who have their own bikes to cruise around on.

“They love riding so I bought them cruisers at Christmas,” she said. “We ride around Emerald Lakes, it’s really lovely around there. “They’ll probably be my little helpers on the day but they will enter the event.”

The Surfers Paradise foreshore will come alive with a host of activities during the Father’s Day weekend. Ms Riley said 10 per cent of all entry costs will go towards surf rescue equipment for local surf clubs.

“ The Oceanway Ride will encourage healthy, active lifestyles. We want to celebrate the beauty of the Coast and support surf lifesavers.”
